The Netherlands. Lieke and Milad, both 11, are great pals. Milad lives with parents and two sisters: they fled Iran when he was very young. Lieke lives with her mum: her dad is French and lives in Belgium. Then something terrible happens: Milad and his family have to go back to Iran as their residence permit is turned down. Lieke goes to The Hague and sends Milad’s family dossier to a journalist, but without success. Milad’s family is transported to a detention centre and Milad disappears: Lieke finds him in their hiding place and helps him.
