Giampiero goes to a neighborhood middle school on the outskirts of Rome. In front of his house there is a gypsy encampment and at school there is a new girl, Romana, a Rom his same age. However, the gypsies are unwelcome and disdain for them is fomented precisely by those engaging in illegal activities. In the meantime, love springs up between Giampiero and Romana and is brutally cut off: Romana has to marry the man her father gives her to, and in the neighborhood hatred for the gypsies increases.

the filmmaker

His first film was Allullo drom, l’anima zingara (1993), which won a number of prizes in various  festivals  throughout  the  world. In 2000 he directed L’ultimo Mundial. His Cattiva condotta was awarded first prize for quality by the Culture and Entertainment Ministry. For television he wrote and directed Un altro giorno ancora (1995) and afterwards directed Ricominciare (2001), Con Nanni Moretti (2002), a 2-hour special with Nanni Moretti, and a documentary on the gypsy reunion at Saint Marie de la Mer, Les saint Marie de la Mer (2002).
