DIARY OF A WIMPY KID

Greg Heffley is a thin boy and not very tall. Greg is about to attend middle school, where he will find a world that’s totally new and not so easy to deal with. Greg lives with his parents, an older brother who teases him and a younger one who admires him. Greg faces the new school together with Rowley, an elementary school companion. Rowley is not only overweight but also decidedly childish. The two are immediately placed on the low rungs of the hierarchy that is automatically created. Greg would like to rank higher but with his friend always sticking to him it seems impossible.

The filmmaker

Born in West Berlin, Thor Freudenthal attended the Academy of Arts and later won a scholarship to CalArts (California Institute of the Arts). Freudenthal’s talent for visual narration was revealed as early as secondary school, where he wrote and illustrated a series of comic strips for Carlsen, the German publisher of “Tintin”. He debuted as a director of feature length films with the domestic comedy Hotel for Dogs (2009) and continued with Diary of a Wimpy Kid, adapted from the illustrated novel by Jeff Kinney. He pursued his specialization in films for kids with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, the second part of the saga begun with Percy Jackson & the Olympians – The Lightning Thief directed by Chris Columbus and adapted from Rick Riordan’s five-novel fantasy series.
