They are kids from Afghanistan who arrived in Ticino after an arduous trip in which many of their peers died, robbed and killed in the mountains between Iran and Turkey or drowned in Greek seas or suffocated in the trucks in which they had hidden to get to Europe. Some of them have decided to band together to form a football team to overcome the diversities of the different ethnic groups they belong to and feel less homesick for their country and kin. The football pitch thus becomes the place of choice in which to meet and socialize. The documentary follows Evazali, 21, who recently began training to become an airplane mechanic; Khanalì, apprentice electrician from Iran, where today live more than three million Afghanis, often maltreated and exploited; Afshin, 22, elder son of a big family living in Chiasso, who in Afghanistan had founded a newspaper to bring culture to young people. These, and others, testify to the dignity and humanity of people who, very young, were forced to flee their homelands because of war. |
